Dear Internet,
If you are going to use the word "literally" to describe an action, do make sure that it is something that the reader would most likely otherwise pass off as hyperbole. "Literally" implies
as it is written.
Example!
"Accident at the glue factory today. Clean-up was so frustrating that I literally tore my hair out (that really hurts, btw)!"
Wow, somebody actually did something that is usually considered a metaphor! And to take a recent example from journalfen, this is one of the many phrases where you do not need to use "literally:" "[her] reaction was to literally cross her legs and scream..."
Wow, she crossed her legs? Good thing you cleared that up for me, partner. That just wouldn't have been clear otherwise.
