Dear Internet,

If you are going to use the word "literally" to describe an action, do make sure that it is something that the reader would most likely otherwise pass off as hyperbole. "Literally" implies as it is written.

Example!

"Accident at the glue factory today. Clean-up was so frustrating that I literally tore my hair out (that really hurts, btw)!"

Wow, somebody actually did something that is usually considered a metaphor! And to take a recent example from journalfen, this is one of the many phrases where you do not need to use "literally:" "[her] reaction was to literally cross her legs and scream..."

Wow, she crossed her legs? Good thing you cleared that up for me, partner. That just wouldn't have been clear otherwise.

Seldom used now, but not an icon I'm particularly inclined to delete.

CACTUUS.

So, solderini was over one day, and as usual we got to talking and horrible, horrible ideas came about. I have no idea how the subject of shooping Squall's face on Daniel Radcliffe's body came up, but as soon as it did I said "shit, now I have to do that, don't I :(". The original idea called for a chocobo, but then C suddenly started laughing and said that if I used a cactuar it could be called CACTUUS ... and two hours later this was born. Used for serious ruminations of the inner meaning of japanese roleplaying games and making your flist NSFW.

While youtubin' Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, I couldn't get over how much Angeal looks like John Travolta (specifically Face/Off-era Travolta) in the opening FMV (now you can't unsee it). Naturally this led me to crack jokes @ caffeinic about Angeal leaving SOLDIER to become a Scientologist, which naturally (naturally!) progressed to "replacing all instances of SOLDIER in the script with SCIENTOLOGIST." Try this sometime.

Anyhow the best way to illustrate the concept is to replace <strike>Gackt</strike> Genesis' stupid play with Dianetics. Ta-daaan!

by [Bad username: progressiveicons]

Die Anstalt is a German webgame about plush toy psychiatry, and is a great way to make you feel less messed up. They actually sell the toys in the game. I kind of want one :|a Anyway, Kroko the paranoid schizophrenic crocodile is a good for expressing fear, or generally being messed up.

Fuck yeah, Lisa Frank! Look at that baby tiger. Just look at him. He is neon pink, orange, and purple. He does not hunt with his teeth and claws, oh no. He hunts by blinding his prey. Used to express what a nine year old schoolgirl I really am inside.

Aisling from Brendan and the Secret of Kells! I haven't actually used this icon yet, but I wanted to have a Secret of Kells icon.

Got back from Disneyland! Met up with my mom and my sister, as they were going to the Cal vs UCLA game on Saturday and were gonna hit Disneyland on Friday. It was really packed and really hot. It was like July just decided to stick around Orange County. However I did get to ride the Haunted Mansion with the Nightmare Before Christmas refitting, which I love (my name is in the "nice" list when you go through the attic!) AND I got to ride their Halloween-themed Space Mountain.

There was a giant flaming demon skellington thing that grabbed its way through wormholes and galaxies and Space Mountain was dark for once and we got to sit in the back and I made a hilarious face for the picture ...

It was just way metal. Let's leave it at that. If you have the opportunity to do so, go and ride Space Mountain at Halloween. It is the best Space Mountain.

Also finally watched the third Mummy movie. It was every bit as stupid as I expected it to be, and I enjoyed every dumb second of it.

FINAL FANTASY IX PLAYARTS ACQUIRED. <lj:music>Yoko Kanno - Memory of Fanelia</lj:music>

Completed the Summon Compendium in Dissidia \o/!

. . . And with that, I've more or less played the game out. I suppose I could actually go to the trouble of leveling up the other characters, beating Inward Chaos, etc.; but I don't feel particularly inclined to do so.

There is the continual lure of funny screenshots, though.

Anyway, Mostly Final Thoughts:

All in all, Dissidia is a solid game, although there are some places where I feel it is sorely in need of improvement. S-E isn't one to let a cash cow go unmilked, so Im reasonably certain that there will be a sequel. And the number one thing I'd like to see in that is:

- BETTER LEVEL DESIGN

There are just some maps that are a pain in the ass to fight on no matter which character you're playing (Kefka's Tower, Ultimecia's Castle, and Planet's Core; to a lesser extent Pandemonium and the Old Chaos Shrine). Any map with multiple levels and/or a ceiling is an invitation to get yourself stuck in a corner and you WILL find yourself screwed by the camera in a chase sequence when the camera decides to provide you with a closeup of the scenery and leaves you guessing about when to press X not to die (I lost 3 matches against Firion in Inward Chaos thanks to this).

In fact, I could do with them axing the chase sequences altogether. Learning the timing to dodge isn't all that difficult (unless you get cock-blocked by the camera), and at higher levels the AI unfailingly dodges, so initiating one becomes an exercise in wasting your time. It really feels like they put them in there because quicktime events are the cool thing to do these days, guys.

And finally, I'd like to see more interesting/balanced skill sets for a bunch of the characters. Cloud of Darkness suffers the most from this. She has two Brave attacks and then a host of HP attacks that are all based around Particle Beam.

I have other, more stupid, quibbles about translation minutiae (the localization team appeared to be quite knowledgeable about both translations of FFVI and yet Terra is wearing a "puppeteer's wheel" instead of a "slave crown" during your boss fight with her in DO III?) and the tedium of grinding to upgrade your weapons, but those are the real big ones.
